Driving piano/synth-based backdrop for an original poem entitled "8:18"
Lyrics
8:18, clock says go
trapped in denial, heedless of the call
foreign lands and haunted dreams
love waving from a faraway shore
red lights blazing, sirens roar
8:18, twice a day, branded with a flame
synchronicity, all too eerie, disrupt the status quo
random numbers, signs of hope beyond my ken
maktub, alpha and omega, established by decree
but i don't know the alphabet
or what makes... or what makes... or what makes destiny
8:18, by morning light
unruly puppets in the shadow of the mountain cross
off to school in the orca glow, lucky logger undertow
8:18, setting sun
music like a starting gun, the sound of distant voices
advising and enticing me, the radio, the radio emits its mighty call
but foolishly i bide my time, i stall and stall and stall
one day, i ran blindly into a thicket of despair
raw in the wind through a forest of no
obsessed with those who'd fled before me
deciphering their silences, cursing heavenwards
secrets carved like cedars, riven with ravens
rock-solid lies on unpaved roads
in time, i came to buy a $20 magazine
(the clock on the wall said 8:18)
1980s small town dream
the tender birth of self-esteem
the path was clear, the path was clear
but still i could not, still i would not, still i could not see...
at 8:18 i sat down to play in a sold-out hall
after years and years of cheats and fakers
garbagemen and undertakers
no more yes-men saying maybe
will the ticking clock betray me?
will the bitter past repay me?
will the music ever save me?
the end is now the beginning, alpha is omega
the alphabet is twisted and enlisted
life has come full circle, still hoping for a fix
the clock was sending out a question
does fate lie in the cards we're dealt or how we play our tricks?
then i saw a blissful light, something's coming, something new
set aside the seeds of doubt
reclaim your life that's overdue
my heart and soul, they bid farewell to what had been a hollow shell
the ticking of the clock beside me, sharp and vivid, strong and true
at 8:18...
