Lyrics
JOCASTA
Jocasta looks out of her window and watches as friends slip away
The birds in the summer fly freely, they swoop down and chatter and play
An island lies off in the distance, of rivers and forests she schemes
She'll give up her suffering and never look back
But the kingdom is frozen in silence and sacrificed dreams
The birds keep on trying to save her, they see how her sadness has grown
They're coming in faster and faster, to tempt her away from her home
The shame of the past is a sickness, with ancestors twisted and scorned
Shadows keep looming wherever she turns
Hoofbeats draw closer and closer as night turns to dawn
Her grief was announced by the prophets
Lives given up on the mountain in valleys of ice
The stain of betrayal is growing
Nothing inside her can fend off his grip like a vise
She knows her story
Does she know that others feel pain that is equally true?
Do they not matter? How can she forget that some people are easy to fool?
I tried to warn her but stuck in her corner
She cries in the nighttime like a child
Harsh accusations and cold calculations
Are all they bequeathed her with a smile
Jocasta is back at her window and thinks of the winter to come
The birds in the kingdom fly southwards, they head off in search of the sun
Life on the island still beckons, she'll cast off her shame in a flash
She’ll give up her suffering and never look back
The prophets' predictions brought nothing but falsehoods and ash
Desperate prisoners may search for a noose
Redemption awaits us but only when set free by truth
